ABOUT THE PLAY:
Allow me to tell you a story... A true story that has nothing to do with a fable! This story is that of my grandfather, Jean de la Fontaine. We are in June 1642... somewhere in a forest. Jean de la Fontaine will, in a few weeks, celebrate his twenty-first birthday. He had just left the convent of the Oratory where, in a movement of fervor inspiring him to be an ecclesiastical, he had entered a year earlier. Jean is about to make a meeting that will change the course of his life... This meeting will be for the young man, the revelation of a gift, that of speaking and being heard by animals!... . Yes, you are not dreaming, Jean de la Fontaine had the genius to talk with animals and nature... But, for the time being, he does not know it yet...

Let's go back a few minutes before the spark... He is said to be a dreamer, which he certainly is. So he takes advantage of his position as Master of Waters and Forests, to run through the foliage and give free rein to this reverie inspired in him by the undergrowth of the forests. But what he loves above all else is reading and indulging in his passion: poetry.

Nothing is known of the book that Jean de La Fontaine was reading just before this meeting... Aesop?... While dreaming and reading, the young man is about to pass between a reed and oak whose nasty gust of wind has caused the roots of the earth to come out... his foot gets caught in the roots, he loses his balance, falls, his head hits the ground... he faints and will only be awakened by the voices of a crow and a fox arguing over... cheese!

The rest?... It will be up to you to discover it and judge on the spot!
